A number of provisions of the Pension Protection Act (PPA) of 2006 are in effect already or will go into effect in the first quarter of 2007. The EGTRRA remedial amendment period will end for “Cycle A” plans on January 31, 2007. According to the IRS, discretionary amendments need to be made by the end of the year in order to be effective for the year. The panelists will help guide the audience through this difficult period, addressing among other things:
- New notice requirements that take effect in the first quarter of 2007
- Plan changes that need to be made by the end of 2006 or early 2007
- Consequences of missing deadlines
- Plan changes required by the final 401(k) and 401(m) regulations
- Other plan or operational changes that sponsors should be considering
